Sea pottery is the ceramic equivalent of sea glass. It forms when a bowl or a teacup or another ceramic object finds its way into the ocean and is gradually abraded by sand and other materials.
This piece of sea pottery is from my mother's curated lifetime collection of sea glass and sea pottery. The blue-and-white pattern and the location where it was picked up suggest that it might have been an Asian ceramic piece at one time. Found on a beach in Washington, Oregon, or California sometime in the past 60 years, the sea pottery piece is set exactly as it was formed by the wind and the waves. I haven't altered it in any way except to flatten the back slightly. Entirely handmade by me in my Connecticut studio.
The setting and band of this ring are made from argentium sterling silver and fine silver. Argentium sterling silver is a patented type of sterling with more pure silver than regular sterling silver (94% vs. 92.5%). It resists tarnish, finishes hard, and exhibits a bright silver color. It is hypoallergenic and contains no nickel.
